comBATON Field of Play Outside
Outside comBATON The only differences between Inside and Outside comBATON: The size of the field The number of players
The Goal Pole
Kick Stick What you kick Attaches to a 6’ pole Same size as Baton Made from PVC Contains a magnet on the top end. Only the person that has the baton can kick this. Cannot touch with head, hand or knee. Only use ankle to the toes to kick.
The Goal Zone Is 3 meters x 3 meters Is under each goal post Is a different color Defense cannot stand in this area Allowed to enter if offense is in this area.
The Strike Zone Red area of playing Field. May take down an opponent after kicking twice. 7 meters x 10 meters.
Offense Tries to score Waits for the referee to hand the baton to them at the line of scrimmage between attacks Cannot start until the Referee blows the whistle Has 20 seconds to cross the line of scrimmage May, hide, pass, hand off the baton before or after they cross the line of scrimmage Must score in allowed attacks, or turn over possession
Defense Cannot attack until offense crosses line of scrimmage Can kick/punch anyone in the target zones Play will not be over until the Shooter is kicked and the Referee blows the whistle
General Whistle ends the play If the game clock ends and a play is in progress, the play continues until a whistle is blown. Shooter must stay in field of play
The Teams Bow In At The Beginning of Every Game
Teams will retreat to opposite 7 meter lines There is no kick off, you start with the baton in hand When the whistle sounds you move toward the goal, this is called the opening attack. Object is to score, or get to the opposite 7 meter line
Scoring on a opening attack If you make it to the kick stick and score, your team will receive points. After resetting the field, the other team will take possession of the baton from their 7 meter line, and try to score on your goal.
Getting stopped on a Opening attack If you are stopped before you get to the 7 meter line, you will have 3 tries to get there, if you don’t, their team will take possession of the baton from the point of last attempt.
Getting to the 7 Meter Line When you cross the 7 meter line, you get 3 more attacks (attempts) to score. The baton will be brought back to the 7 meter line if there is no score No score after 3 attacks from the 7 meter line means you turn over possession of the baton
Basics If someone falls without being kicked, just touch them, they will be down. Don’t ever kick a fallen player Punches are allowed to the body only
Basics Impact must be that of a point in sparring No kicking to the back No leg kicks Progress must have been impeded Results in loss of attack
The Shooter has the baton and can: Run with it Throw it Hand it off Fight back Score Have it stolen from their grip- in the case of simultaneous possession, a fight off will be conducted
Throwing the Baton
Baton hits the floor If no player touches it, the play is dead If someone touches it before it hits the floor, it’s live. Pick it up and try to score! You can recover it by lying on on it and waiting for a defensive player to touch you You can make a play It’s the same as a fumble in the NFL
Blocking for the Shooter (Baton Holder) You can kick or punch anyone, anytime during the play, even if they don’t have the baton. Try to create a opening or lane so they can score. Experiment with different formations
Take Downs/ Sweeps Only used when inside the 7 meter line. Either team can do it to anyone on the field. Must kick 2 times in succession before you can take down or sweep. Must grapple No foot holding No joint locks No Jersey holding
Fight-offs Are Held: When 2 players have possession of the baton at the same time. Those 2 players will go to the fight- off box and prepare to spar. The player scoring the first point when the referee blows the whistle gets their team possession of the baton with 3 new attacks.
End of Game Players line up in center field. Game is awarded to winning team Teams Bow out Shake hands Next 2 teams take the field
